A very special edition of The Elite Interviews! This afternoon I invited Contest Committee members Come and Mgay on to the show to create a hot new podcast: Summer Contest Preview.mp3 (right click and download!). We talked for 45 minutes about all of this Summer’s hottest matchups and controversies. More details and discussion can be found on the boards, along with the Podcast outline. Currently only the high quality version is online; watch this spot for a lo qual alternative in the near future!
EDIT – I’m no liar!
The Proudest Tradition in Elite History… returns! It’s the 2006 Elite Summer Contest! The complete preview can be found in General Chat; as always, we’re also using bracketmaker to display this year’s official Bracket, and to keep track of our Bracket Prediction Contest! This is the most difficult bracket ever created, so you are certainly invited fill your own bracket for a chance at glory and fame, as the Elite’s true Contest Oracle.
If you’re new to the Elite since last Summer and have never experienced an Elite Contest, you’re in for a treat! A basic explanation of how the process works can be seen on our old Contest page from 2003, our first year. So read up, post your thoughts, get a bracket in, and most importantly, watch this spot for new Contest information and surprises in the days ahead. NGO!
…to get a new hobby.
That’s right, 900,000 hits. It would probably be a buzzkill to admit that FastCounter’s count is highly inaccurate… and I don’t even know if it’s trying to count unique hits or not, lol. A quick analysis of our traffic using our stats tool shows that we actually have MANY more hits than what FC seems to catch (possibly multiple millions of non-unique hits), but there’s no way to know at this point because this stats tool wasn’t in use when the site was created.
What’s interesting is that I had forgotten we were zeroing in on 900k. I scrolled down there to check something and left the window open. Later I come back to see 5 beautiful zeros staring back at me. How serendipitous.
Let’s hang in there for 1,000,000. That count may be arbitrary, but I think we can all agree it functions well as a sentimental measure for our progress here. Thanks to everyone who helped us get this far!
Speaking of Wikis, earlier this week I launched a project I am very excited about: The Speed Run Wiki. The SRW is intended as a joint project that will unite all of our similar communities: the Elite, Kart, scopinfo, the SDA, N64HS, SC, and whoever else would like to join in. The main focus of the Wiki is world record strats, but we also intend to feature complete video coverage, so new runners can not only read the strat but also see it performed before their very eyes. The early results for the Wiki have been highly encouraging… 41 editors are currently active, working to improve the 400+ articles we have already created. Most pages still need more content, naturally, but the guides for the games we are putting an early focus on, namely Perfect Dark, Goldeneye, and Mario Kart 64, are beginning to fill out nicely.
In a related story, be sure to nominate Perfect Dark for the upcoming GameFAQs contest! Log in to your account then visit the nomination form and you can write PD’s way into the “Best. Series. Ever” Contest that will be kicking off on June 1st. Only 32 series will make the final cut, so every nomination matters!
