Introduction Over the course of time, we have seen people come and go, respectively picking up and dropping their controller. This site is a tribute to those who have been of great importance to either GoldenEye or Perfect Dark. Despite being retired from competing, the Elitists listed below still pay a visit to the community on a regular base. Enjoy the nostalgic material you are about to witness! |

Derek Clark, GoldenEye (written: 01/08/03) Derek found his way to the boards during December 2000/January 2001. As a newcomer, he surprised us by giving us instant proof for some of his records (Bunker 1 Agent 18, some wacky Depot 00a and Bunker 2 SA stuff). Because he wasn’t satisfied with some of his records yet, he made his debut on the rankings page of 4 February 2001. The first time around, Clark’s name was ranked as 39th, with a point total of 3475 (1134, 1134, 1207). The same month, Derek jumped 9 places on the rankings, being 30th (3875 points) at the end of February 2001. In the early days of June 2001 Derek realized his first tied sweep, being Statue.(2:28, 2:27, 2:28 , from that moment Derek continued as The Statue King, which he still is nowadays. Moments later, Derek achieved the illusive and famed untied Statue 00a 2:26. The 4th of June, Derek was ranked at a solid 23rd spot, with 4480 points. Clarky kept on rising, and in the beginning of September 2001 he reached a top 20 spot(20th), having 4814 (1739, 1568, 1507) points under his name. The last quarter of 2001 was one of Derek’s finest and most impressive GE periods: September 10 2001: 4814 points, 20th place October 14 2001: 5055 points, 17th place November 9 2001: 5335 points, 11th place December 20 2001: 5488 points, 7th place By the end of 2001 Derek reached the top 10, with peaks of 5488 (1893, 1818, 1777) points and ranked 7th in 2001. During the first half of 2002 Clark was mainly whoarding. He got some records in the first quarter of the year. In the mean time Clark was losing major points. On the ranking page before he revealed his whoard Derek was ranked 11th, 5334 points. After revealing tons of new records while he was in Illinois, including a tied Egyptian sweep(48, 48, 48, with 00a untied), frigate 00a 1:18 and some other great PRs and WRs, Clark made it to the 6th spot, 5584 points. He achieved his highest point total ever end July/begin August 2002, obtaining 5588 points (1913, 1850, 1825). Derek’s highest rank ever was achieved in the beginning of September 2002, he managed to get a stunning 4th place, behind Randy, Wouter and Karl. At that time Derek had 5560-5570 points. Derek’s interest in GE, despite some efforts on Streets (Agent 1:14, Secret Agent 1:57, 00 Agent 1:57) and Caverns SA 1:30, dropped quickly. I am not sure, but I do think Caverns SA 1:30 was his last effort with success on GoldenEye. After playing some Gamecube and returning to GE, Derek came to the conclusion that he had lost his abilities completely. To quote Derek: "I became used to the TS2 controls very quickly and suddenly GE is very awkward...I played for an hour a week ago and just couldn't quite get full control! It was a little saddening. The joystick was horrible compared to my GC controller's, that was one of the hardest things to overcome." Although the sad rumour was there for a while, he officially retired from GE early 2003. These days, Derek is still at a fine, Derek-worthy 7th spot. Vitor Miranda, Perfect Dark & GoldenEye (written:07/16/03) On the latest rankings update of 14th July 2003 Vitor Miranda reached a wonderful milestone: Vitor (better known as Greg K) got rewarded for his devotion towards PD and now wears PD’s bronze medal with pride and honour. In the past week Miranda first passed former Perfect Dark champion Phil Hughes, and moments later he knocked off another ex Perfect Dark king (Ben Gorman) from the podium. As from the latest rankings, the Brazilian gamer has now collected an impressive point total of 5845 (1918, 1942, 1985). On the time rankings Vitor is positioned as 5th. Passing Gorman was a special event for Vitor. In the early days of his gaming career he always looked up to the former champion and until last week he dreamt of passing Gorman one day... Let’s go back in time with Brazil’s finest as our subject. Greg K joined the PD elite somewhere in January 2002. Since his arrival Vitor rapidly improved his rank position, and achieved great records, and some more, and a bunch more, and more...By the end of 2002 Vitor’s great performance got paid off with a stunning 5th place. However, early this year Vitor posted a sad message on the forum containing his retirement. Thankfully, he couldn’t resist PD’s temptation and got back in action! The revived Brazilian seemed to be better than ever before. Amazing (un)tied World Records, including Pelagic 2 SA 1:52, G5 Building SA 0:49/PA 0:59, Villa SA 1:22, Institute SA 1:30, MBR A 1:23 and various more, resulted in a mighty fine 3rd position. Add to that the following: out of 12 POM’s (Player Of the Month nominations, run by Jon Barber) during 2002 he got at least 8 mentions! Miranda’s success seems to be boundless as he’s ranked as 5th on the Rare Rankings (GE and PD combined, also run by Jon) too! Besides all these gaming achievements, he’s a great fellow on the boards, being helpful and a source of inspiration for others. One thing that has to be mentioned is Vitor’s survival among all the 1.2 players in the world of Perfect Dark. Together with Marcus Dolejsi, Miranda prefers the 1.1 control style among the remaining 1.2 gamers. Besides that, Vitor uses a pretty unconventional way of playing: he moves around with Joanna (sometimes James is involved too!) making use of the d-pad. Speaking of GoldenEye, the Brazilian boy has been active on that front too! He’s been achieving some pretty nice records for ‘that other game’ and is currently to be found on the 26th spot, having 4502 points. Unconventional or not, the ‘dude’ who’s born and bred for 1.1 gaming made his dream come true: becoming Perfect Dark’s third player in the world! Vitor, what you have shown so far only belongs to the highest category of the Elite’s community. You got rewarded with what you desired so much, and I am sure you have plenty left for us in your Brazilian gaming stock! On behalf of the-elite.net’s staff members (and of course the Elite as a whole) awesome job on obtaining the third place, and we hope you are with us for quite some time! Harvey Manhood, GoldenEye (written: 11/11/03) A couple of weeks ago GE veteran Harvey Manhood made an abrupt end to his gaming career by throwing his GoldenEye cartridge into a lake. Quoting Harving, standing near the edge: I just said "im not playing this damn game..." *hurls cartridge as text commences* "....any more". And then it splashed, and i didnt care at all. I stared into the water for about 10 secs, then moved away to buy the groceries...it was the perfect crime (except my fingerprints are all over it:)). With that, a great 3-year GE career found its Waterloo. We can't let Harvey leave without writing him a well-deserved dedicated retrospective view. Harvey entered the world of GE in October 2000, when he debuted impressively in 19th place. By the end of the last week of 2000, Harvey climbed to the 17th spot having 4932 points. During the first half of 2001 Harvey's inactivity caused a drop of 11 places on the rankings (July 1st 2001: 28th, 4224). In the remaining part of the year the UK-gamer picked up his controller and managed to reach a 21th place. The British fellowman started 2002 as 24th, having 4844 points. Harvey showed what he's capable of in the first quarter of 2002, as he re-entered the top 20 by settling on a nice 16 spot (5091 points). The next quarter Harvey fell down a few places, but by the end of the third quarter he collected 5135 points. With that, he was ranked 15th in the world. Manhood consistently finished the year as 15th, having just under 5100 precious points. The early stages of 2003 are characterized by Harvey's most impressive performance. In January and February the UK gamer gains 100 points each month. He marches on in March 2003 and becomes a top 10 GE player. As the first quarter approaches its end, Harvey's awesome efforts resulted in a mighty fine 9th place (5359 points). This will also remains Harvey's highest seeding ever. In the last months of his GE career Harvey breaks his personal 5400-points boundary. The number 5411 will go into the history books as Manhood's highest point amount. He sets that record approximately 3 years after debuting (2 October 2003). Shortly after, Harvey Manhood retires from playing GoldenEye. In summary, you have been good at GE, and one of the most active members of both the Board and the Chat. Add to that: we will never forget those delicous online birthday cakes! On behalf of the-Elite.net's staff, and the Elite as a whole, thank you for everything you have done. We wish you all the best with your future activities. Karl Jobst, GoldenEye (written: 01/23/04) Before joining the GE rankings, Karl’s admiration for the game lead to the creation of his very own GoldenEye Fast Times Guide on Gamefaqs. Having a look is highly recommended as it contains tons of nostalgic and classic material. On a personal note, that site will always remain special to me. In May 2000, Karl Jobst entered the world of GE. By the end of 2000, the man from down under made his way all to GE’s 10 finest players. Karl was ranked as 8th in the world and as 2nd Australian GE player (behind Michael Coe, 5385 points). Beyond any doubt, the year 2001 is characterized as Karl’s most dominant and most impressive period. On first instant, in the last week of May 2001 Karl passes former GoldenEye Champ Sterling Neblett and moves up to his best place ever in his GE career: the 2nd spot (5778 points). At the same time Karl’s outstanding play earns him the first place on the Time Rankings, having a total time of 1:25:17 (30 May 2001). Karl manages to obtain 20 (!) World Records in May 2001. These include the famous long standing Jungle SA 1:00/Jungle 00A 1:05, Jungle A 0:56, Train A 1:13, Surface 2 A 0:54, Caverns SA 1:29, Depot 00A 0:54, Silo A 1:07, Bunker 2 SA 0:56 and Cradle A 0:37. Furthermore, Karl develops a brand new Caverns 00A strategy, resulting in a major decrease in GE’s total time and an untied WR: 2:34 (later on Karl lowers it to 2:14). Due to his astonishing performance Karl gets voted for POM. Secondly, on the rankings page of 2 June 2001 Karl leaves Jansen further behind him on the Time Rankings. For the first time the Aussie leads each difficulty setting and the Total Time Rankings: 1:24:50 (21:44 KJ, 28:32 KJ, 34:34 KJ). Karl’s 34:34 on 00A was untied by a whopping 20 seconds. Thirdly, during mid-2001, Jobst continues his excellent form and in July, he reveals 10 (!) World Records at once. Just to name a few: 1:53 Surface 1 SA & 00A, Archives SA 0:57 and Surface 2 00A 1:39. In July, Karl also reaches his highest point total ever. On the rankings page of 24 July 2001, Karl is listed as second on the podium having 5828 points (1967, 1932, 1929) under his name. Regarding the Point Rankings the Australian competitor didn’t grab the gold medal, on the Total Time setting he was able to dethrone Jansen twice. On the rankings page of 11 July 2001 Karl’s name topples the Time Rankings for the second time, having an accumulated time of 1:24:14. Still in the same month, Karl succeeds again in becoming first in time for all the difficulty settings, and it also means the last update with Karl on top of the Time Rankings: 31 July 2001, 1:24:08 (21:39 KJ, 28:28 KJ, 34:01 KJ). Lastly, in the last quarter of 2001 Jobstar achieves his most precious GE record, being Runway SA 0:23. Karl sets this untied record in the first week of November, using the 1.2 play style. As 2001 approaches its end, Karl is still ranked on the GE podium. (27 December 2001, 3rd place, 5755 points). During 2002 and 2003 Karl loses his interest in GE and is mainly focussing on the other FPS, Perfect Dark. In the early stages of 2002 Karl decides to fully substitute his original playing style (1.1) for 1.2. Despite his inactivity during the major part of 2002, Karl’s efforts result in some incredible (untied) World Records, including those on Streets (1:14, 1:57, 1:57), Bunker 2 (0:25, 0:53), Jungle A 0:54, Train A 1:11, Bunker 1 SA 0:24 and Facility A 0:48. Karl’s most impressive record in the declining years of his GoldenEye career has been the untied Aztec SA 1:53. Aztec 00A 2:07 goes into the history books as Karl Jobst’s last GE record. Over the course of time Karl dropped a few places on the rankings, but you can still track him down in the upper regions. A place where a player of his calibre deserves a spot. The retired GoldenEye player from down under is currently ranked as 9th, having 5436 points and as 8th on the Time Rankings (1:22:05) (as of 22 January 2004). - o0o -
